He Lobos river canyon It is an exceptional place located in the provinces of Burgos and Soria. With 25 kilometers in length, it is perfect for hiking at all levels. A place created by the erosive action of water since the rocks that surround it are relatively sensitive to limestone. Therefore, it is a live cannon of continuous changes.

To the Lobos river canyon It is usually accessed from the town of Ucero in Burgos, where the park's interpretation center and a castle are housed. To the north of Ucero and once we cross the Lobos river by a bridge, there is a road on the left where you can reach the park ticket offices after approximately 2.5 kilometers. If instead of deviating we follow the road, after a series of very pronounced curves we would reach the viewpoint of the Galiana, a perfect place to see from the top the canyon of the Lobos river.

It is also possible to leave the car along the detour, specifically in the El Cañón restaurant, which means walking several kilometers if our destination is the Hermitage of San Bartolomé, the most visited place in the park. Personally I don't see it, unless we don't want to pay the entrance fees. From the parking lot after the entrance, there are better routes to do around the Lobos river canyon.

Simple route through the Lobos river canyon

The route we present today is perhaps the most classic of the entire canyon. Basically you walk from the main parking lot to the Hermitage of San Bartolomé, continuously bordering the Lobos River by its left margin. Just 1 kilometer round trip.

There is also the option to do it on the other side of the river, but in summer I would rule it out since there are many fewer shaded areas. In any case we could take it into account if we want to make a completely circular route.

From the parking we go to the end of this where there is a sign indicating the sections of the route. Behind this is the Lobos river that crosses through a metal bridge without a railing.

Route through the Lobos river canyon - Yellow water lilies

The road runs through a forest of junipers, holm oaks and pine trees that is constantly attached to the Lobos River. This in several points is covered with yellow water lilies, a rare plant that appears in the cleanest pools of the Lobos River, with little current and some sun.

The route is relatively short, just 1 kilometer and if it does not become rock stairs, all of it could be done with a baby carriage. This is best done on the other side of the river.

In the end we will find the hermitage of San Bartolomé, a temple that can be visited from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., although it is better to be informed as these schedules may change.

Behind the hermitage after crossing a bridge, is the Big cave A cavity of great height but without too much depth, which we can visit without hardly using a flashlight.

Returning from the Grande cave and looking just behind the hermitage of San Bartolomé, a path that reaches a viewpoint called the balcony, very close to some very visible holes in the same eye-shaped cannon.

From here we only have to turn around and return along the same way. Optionally we can cross the bridge over the Lobos river and return to the starting point in a circular way.
