The Barranco del Río Dulce, located in the province of Guadalajara and next to the picturesque town of Sigenza, it is one of the most unique natural environments in central Spain. It is an ideal place to get away from cities like Madrid or Guadalajara, a simple and suitable getaway for the whole family.

Just 12 minutes from the center of Sigüenza and just over an hour from Madrid emerges this little gem of the province of Guadalajara. It is an ideal place to enjoy in spring or in fall, when the landscape stands out more and the contrast of the colors are obvious.

Are three villages those that shelter the ravine of the Rio Dulce and that next to an oak forest where the junipers, junipers, poplars, willows and even ash trees give the Dulce river a unique shape. The ravine runs from a accessible trail and that is an act for everyone. Even from the town of the Cabrera, there is a route for the blind 1.5km, so the Barranco del Río Dulce becomes a very accessible environment and even to go with family and children.

It is easy to see griffon vultures, hawks and even golden eagles in the ravine. This place was one of the favorites ofFélix Rodríguez de la Fuente. There, the famous naturalist, recorded several episodes of the most famous TVE series, The Man and the Earth, a series that aimed to show thenature and fauna of Spain. In the Barranco del Río Dulce it is possible to make several hiking trails, where one of 3.7km stands out.

How to get?

To access the Barranco del Río Dulce Natural Park you can go from the A-2, taking the exit towards Sigüenza or by the CM-1011 at km104. See in Google Maps.

Hiking trails

There are two routes that stand out in the area. The Route of the Sickle of Pelegrina, less than 4km, which runs along the river and the Waterfall of the Gollorio and Branch of the Pozas, of 5.7km and an unevenness of 350m that runs from both the lower and the upper part. The latter is worth it in spring or autumn. both leave from Pelegrin.

Siguenza

There are so many things to do and see in Sigüenza that it has become an ideal place to do aescape of a day or weekend.

Where to eat?

  • Calle Mayor Restaurant. Very cozy and with a delicious ticket scramble.
  • Gurugú de la plazuela restaurant. They have ground beer, something original, and the skewers and portions are very rich
  • El Balcon del Dulce (in the town of La Cabrera). Located in an idyllic place, it is worth approaching.

  • Labyrinth Hotel. Small hotel located downtown with excellent value for money
  • Rural hotel the cabin. Very cucas rooms and fireplace.
  • Puerta Medina Hostel. Located in a historic building of the 18th century next to the cathedral.

For foodies

  • Hotel & Spa Molino de Alcuneza. SPA in a mill of the fifteenth century. It is a boutique hotel with pool, one pass.
  • National hostel of Sigüenza. It is undoubtedly the most striking, since it is located in the Castle of the city.
