Limiting the provinces of Ciudad Real and Albacete we have the unique Lagunas de Ruidera. It has always been a place that we wanted to know, perhaps because it appeared in those books of the LAB as a natural park full of waterfalls and lagoons. A paradise, come on, worth feeding our imagination.
Holy Week was falling and we hadn't explored La Mancha Castle for a long time, with those National Parks like Cabañeros or Las Tables de Daimiel, and why not, a natural park like Lagunas de Ruidera. It was a long time ago, we were close, so we prepared a route and a view of the lagoons.

His fame is due to the leaps and capricious waterfalls due to very characteristic geological formations of this natural park. The reality that because of the drought we don't see them, but if the biological richness of poplar groves, sabinares and vegetation around the lagoons.
exist bathing and recreation areas, as well as countless rural houses, campsites and hotels in the area.

Activities you can do in the lagoons
Before going to the park you have to know that you can do all kinds of activities in the Lagunas de Ruidera, but it all depends on the amount of water in them. For example it is possible to do scuba diving, since many of the lagoons are connected to each other by underground caves. It is also possible rent bicycles or two of the most classic activities, the kayak waves hiking trails. Some of these activities must be prepared with time and others improvising, it all depends on the season.
The main viewpoints are on the two banks of the lagoons. On the side straight is the main road, paved road that starts from the town of Ruidera. It is where restaurants, tourist viewpoints and lots of piers to rent kayaks. This road is taken before reaching Ruidera, taking it to the right once past the bridge where the Perca Rosa Restaurant is.
Santo Morcillo Lagoon
At left margin there is the path and the cycle track, with much quieter and much nicer views than those on the side of the road. The trail is also taken from the bridge, but shortly before crossing it. In it at the entrance there is a small parking lot where you can park about 4 or 5 cars.
We opted to do a hiking trail in the Lagunas de Ruidera. The reality is that there was not much water, although enough to do activities such as kayaking, but the path that surrounded them caught our attention and it was the activity we did in the end.
Route through the Ruidera Lagoons
It is possible to make several routes, some linear and other circular. The classic part from the bridge which is next to the town of Ruidera, but we recommend that you start from the El Huerto Restaurant, since it is a more forested area, the lagoons are much prettier and at least, especially in summer, there are shade and bathing areas.
We finally made the complete route, which is around 21km, but it gets heavy and when it's hot it drains a lot. A part becomes heavy and the end is very, very monotonous. That is why it is better to make the circular we mark on the map. As a curiosity in the circular around the corner it becomes a channel Overlooking the lagoons, instead of coming back on the road.
In summer it is so hot that it is not worth doing such a long route. It is convenient to make only the section that surrounds the Laguna Santo Morcillo and the Laguna Lengua, which starts from the El Huerto Restaurant
How to get?
Since Albacete on the N-340 towards Manzanares or from Madrid along the road of Andalucía the A-4, taking the turnoff in Apple orchards on the n-340 towards Albacete.
The classic question, do the lagoons have water?
The answer is clearly yes, but depending on the rainy season or drought, you will have the possibility or not to see the waterfalls in the area. Unfortunately there are many years that cannot be seen or seen, but if the rain stalks, runs, there will be beautiful waterfalls in the Ruidera Lagoons.
